Strive CYW at Shakespeare Public School (Temporary Full-Time)

There is an opening for a temporary Strive CYW position: 
The successful candidates will be responsible for supporting a caseload of students. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities may include:

  1. Work as a part of the School Team and Learning Services Staff, to improve the behavioural literacy of specific students by developing and implementing behavioural programming which may include elements of Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA);
  2. Support school staff in using positive behaviour strategies in an effort to have students achieve positive outcomes in the classroom and on the yard;
  3. Align aspects of school wide positive discipline with the intervention plans for students on caseload where relevant to the specific school;
  4. Support school-based personnel and parents with plans that have been developed which meet the behavioural needs of specific students;
  5. Use functional behavioural assessments to develop intervention plans;
  6. Model specific behaviour strategies for school personnel;
  7. Use positive reinforcement to improve behavioural outcomes for students;
  8. Participate in training sessions relevant to supporting students with behavioural concerns;
  9. Develop and implement transition plans for students with behavioural needs;
  10. Collect and analyze data for the purpose of assisting with the development of an intervention plan or for the revision of social skills or behavioural goals;
  11. Interact with students throughout the school day for the purpose of determining the most effective       intervention and classroom management strategies;
  12. Support the mental health and well-being of students on caseload;
  13. Attend case conferences and other meetings related to students;
  14. Use de-escalation strategies to minimize or eliminate disruptive behaviour;
  15. Communicate with parents on a regular basis in consultation with the school principal; and,
  16. Other duties related to the specific caseload of students as assigned by the school principal and the Superintendent of Learning Services or designate.

​Job Specifications and Requirements:

  1. A Child and Youth Worker college diploma;
  2. Certification (such as the Autism Intervener Course) and experience in using all elements of applied behavioural analysis with students;
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work professionally as a member of the school Special Education Team;
  4. Experience in treatment facilities and clinical settings with children and youth who have mental health needs;
  5. Good oral and written communication skills and ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality;
  6. Proficient computer literacy skills;
  7. Ability to work independently;
  8. Experience in a group home or treatment facility setting would be beneficial;
  9. Current BMS training; and,
  10. A valid class “G” Ontario Driver’s license and reliable vehicle as travel from school to school may be required for some assignments.​

​Note:  The school location of this program could change during the year and may change from year-to-year depending on program needs.

Rate of Pay: Level 7 of ESSP Collective Agreement   
Hours of Work: 35 Hours per week, 10 months per year
Pension Plan: Defined pension plan through the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS)
Health & Dental Benefits: Extended and Supplementary Health, Paramedical Services, Dental, including Orthodontics, Out of Province/Country and Health Care Spending Account
Start Date:  September 2, 2024
End Date: June 30, 2025
