Resources for Challenging Oppression

Thank you for visiting our Resources for Challenging Oppression page.

Has a hate-based/biased incident occurred in your school or community? Have you received a letter informing you that your child(ren) was/were impacted or involved in a hate-based/biased incident?

This section provides resources for parents/guardians/caregivers and members of the AMDSB community. It will identify and eliminate gaps related to access, experiences, and outcomes that contribute to the oppression toward staff and students. Each category contains articles, videos, and mental health and well-being supports.

These resources are intended to be educational tools and help address incidents of hate. It is important to note that these resources embody our current practices and comprehension. As a result, it remains flexible and open to adjustments to address evolving needs and changing circumstances.

The Power of Language

Language holds great power. Minneapolis, Minnesota, elementary school teacher Natalie Ringold shared an Instagram Reel of her teaching 4th-grade students about kindness using a simple philosophy and a tube of toothpaste. As educators and advocates, we, too, have the power to inspire kindness through our words and actions.

Minimum age recommendation

Video resources have been reviewed, and a minimum age has been recommended. This was determined by considering the images, themes, language, content, and context. Adults should always watch any video before sharing it with those impacted by or involved in hate.
