English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes
In response to requests, more in-person classes are now available. We are also continuing to offer some online classes.
Online classes use Google Meet and Google Classroom.

To access online classes, students need to have a device with internet access (tablet or computer), be able to log in to an online platform independently, attend class regularly, and complete assignments.
English as a Second Language
Programs are conducted in a classroom setting and are specifically designed to offer assistance to adults in the community for whom English is not their first language but who would like to:
- Listen, speak, read and write in English
- Improve communication and employability skills
- Increase knowledge of Canada
There is no charge for eligible learners. Eligible learners include:
permanent resident
- naturalized Canadian Citizen (born outside Canada in a non-English speaking country)
- refugee claimant or convention refugee
- part of the CUAET program
- the only work permit types that are eligible are: 17, 27, 37, or 28 if accompanied by approval in principle letter.
If you meet one of the categories above you must have a CLARS assessment completed before you can attend class. This can be done online. To get an assessment, Perth County residents should connect with the YMCA Newcomer Services at [email protected]. If you are have a work permit, you should contact the Cross Cultural Learning Centre by filling out the form at the link below. They will verify if you are eligible to attend. If you are not eligible you can connect with your closest CEL site for options.www.lcclc.org/english-programs.
